There are few people whose music can be "heard" over many different musical genres to many different music listeners. Dawn Royston's unique style and powerful voice resound from her Classical training, and yet translates to jazz, pop and r&b listeners. Her music is a blend of classical with a modern pop senisiblity incorporating her love of the world's folk traditions and grooves.
Dawn grew up listening to her parents collection of Motown and other 60's R&B albums in Gainesville, FL, but discovered classical music when she was 11. She began taking lessons and by the end of her high school career she had won many voice competitions including the National Association for Teachers of Singing award for best high school vocalist in the Southeasten United States.
After establishing herself as Gainesville's most beloved classical and sacred music singer, her love for pop, rock, and jazz led her to the diverse musical environment of The Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she emerged as one of the college's top singers.
While at Berklee, Dawn was featured in several major performances in a cross-section of musical styles, but found her greatest succsess in three Singer's Showcases, in which she always received standing ovations for her soulful classical singing.
As a member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus and the function band Boston City Rhythm, Dawn's versatility is constantly at work where she lives now in Boston, Massachusettes.
