Lovespirals began in 1999 as an outgrowth of multi instrumentalist and producer, Ryan Lum's, previous band incarnation, Love Spirals Downwards. Following the release of his 10,000+ selling album, Flux, Lum began working as an atmospheric Drum 'n' Bass and Downtempo DJ and dance track producer, collaborating with vocalist Anji Bee, as well as Doron Orenstein and Gabriel D. Vine (of Subliminal Records duo, Monkey Bars).
Beginning with atmospheric Jazz-Step Drum 'n' Bass singles featured alongside the likes of LTJ Bukem on comps like Chill Out Lounge Vol. 2, then sidestepping into a moody blend of rock, jazz, world, and folk styles for their 2002 Projekt Records release, Windblown Kiss, Lovespirals followed up in late 2005 with a collection of jazzy yet rock-infused Chill-Out music -- aptly named Free & Easy -- on their own label, Chillcuts.
Indeed, the duo has traversed many genres while steadfastly maintaining a recognizably dreamy, sensual vibe courtesy of the smooth, soulful guitar and Rhodes piano of Ryan Lum (Jazz Review's Lee Prosser proclaimed Lum "a master of guitar"), enhanced by the seductive vocals and romantic lyrics of Anji Bee (of whom Music Tap's Matt Rowe enthused, "Shockingly beautiful and sultry vocals... erotically charged").
Lovespirals' music has been featured internationally on network television, cable, DVD, radio, and podcasts including: Oprah, E TV's Gastineau Girls, VH1's Celebrity Fit Club, the WB's Popular boxed set, The Strand: Venice (by Daniel Myrick of Blair Witch Project fame), as well as on The Chalet Show with Lynn Parsons, and Adam Curry's Daily Source Code, just to name a few. Tracks from Lum's 1998 album, Flux were featured in the WB's Dawson's Creek and La Femme Nikita, as well.
The duo have also become the sweethearts of podcasters worldwide, thanks in part to the support of Adam Curry's Daily Source Code. Vocalist, Bee, who comes from a background in college radio, joined Curry's Podshow Podcast Network in early 2006 with the launch of a weekly music show called The Chillcast with Anji Bee. The band also produces a twice monthly band podcast called Chillin' with Lovespirals.
Apple iTunes carries both Lovespirals albums, as well as Love Spirals Downwards' 5 album back catalog, the Chillin' with Lovespirals podcast and The Chillcast with Anji Bee. All the band's albums are also available via CDBaby, Amazon, and many other online sources. Free & Easy is further distributed to stores via Metropolis Distribution in the US, Monitor in Hong Kong, and Noise Kontrol in Mexico.
